For 168 years, horses have been at the heart of Mt White Station, a 40,000-hectare high-country property. This fully hosted 4-day retreat, is centred on true high-country horsemanship and the traditions that have shaped the Station for generations.
About the retreat:
There is something special about a high-country person and the trust shared between them, their horse, and their dogs on this beautiful but unforgiving landscape. That trust is built on confidence and skill. On this experience, you will learn a craft passed down for over 100 years, while trekking through some of the most stunning Southern Alps landscapes that few people ever get to see. This experience is real, it is raw, and it offers a rare glimpse into life on the land, come on, step into the high country and experience it firsthand.
You’ll be guided by Heather Harrington, a horsewoman with over 40 years’ experience across Canterbury’s high country. Having studied with Monty Roberts, Pat Parelli, Robert Millar, Ken Falkner, and Bert Elstob, Heather brings practical knowledge to help every rider – beginner or advanced – build confidence and connection.
The retreat goes beyond the flat land of a training arena, and is more than just a horse trekking weekend. It's about instinct, trust and the partnership that develops between horse and human when tested by terrain and the elements.

"We totally enjoyed everything! Heather was amazing and really made our trip. She made us feel very safe using her horses which were wonderful and so well trained. Her training was top notch her knowledge and passion about mount white showed in every way! We have not laughed so much and highly recommend to anyone.
The accommodation was perfect the food was awesome and Callum certainly loved his pudding for breakfast lol. All staff were very friendly and professional and nothing was a problem for them. The trip exceeded our expectations and we would love to come and ride again and maybe some fishing! 10/10 from us." - Rebecca and Callum
