This three-night retreat brings celebrated New Zealand artist Juliet Best to the heart of Mt White Station. Winner of the 2024 NZ Millennium Landscape Award, long-time Artist in Residence for Life Flight Rescue, and an experienced educator, Juliet is known for her luminous works layered with texture, colour, and gold.
About the retreat:
Over the retreat you’ll work with impasto, glazes, arcylic inks, and delicate gold leaf to capture the high-country’s natural crests - the ridgelines and light that define Mt White’s landscape. With Juliet’s warm and grounded teaching style, both new and experienced painters will be supported to create their own artwork, richly textured and gold-leafed, to take home.
Set against the Southern Alps, this fully hosted experience blends creativity with connection. You’ll enjoy comfortable accommodation in the Guest Quarters, hearty seasonal meals, and time to slow down, recharge, and immerse yourself in both art and landscape.

Guest Feedback:
(When asked one thing they enjoyed about the retreat)
"The peace and tranquility, and the awesome food and staff."
"One thing? Wow, that’s a hard choice!! The art was absolutely amazing but the location was stunning! So hard to name only one thing, but being able to do my favourite activity in such a wondrous environment was life changing and inspiring."
(When asked what they would suggest we improve)
"Personally I think you had everything just right. The amount of time, the structure to the days and the weather."
"Nothing, the whole experience exceeded my expectations. The artist is someone I admire and I would have happily gone to a far less inspiring place to spend that time learning, but the combination of being somewhere so breathtaking took it to new heights!!"
